E-Learning is Child's Play - Or is it?
Covid-19 or Coronavirus has changed our view of the World. How we behave and interact with others has been shaped by this virus. For the cynics, who felt that tech, Social Media, a way of staying connected that did not involve Zoom, FaceTime or Skype, could never have predicted that this time would come.
As a traditionalist when it comes to education, it is human interaction that drives and motivates me, the connection with learners and how we bounce off one another is inspirational. However, for many years teaching and education have evolved. The virus has caused the classroom and lecture theatres to be moved completely to the online platform. Now more than ever, there is a need to adapt and change.
New Vocabulary Created by a Pandemic
On the 12th March 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) and Europe’s Standing Committee of the Regional Committee met. Dr Hans Henri P. Kluge, WHO Regional Director for Europe, briefed the group on the rapid escalation of COVID-19 in the WHO European Region, now placing it at the centre of this pandemic.
As of the morning of 12 March, there were more than 20 000 confirmed cases and there were almost 1000 deaths in the European Region. The meeting followed the announcement that COVID-19 would be characterised as a “Pandemic”. Pandemic differs to an Epidemic because whilst an Epidemic is a disease that affects a large number of people within a community, population, or region, a Pandemic an epidemic that’s spread over multiple countries or continents. Hence our familiarity with this word.
Mind, Body, Spirit - Take Care of all Three
Jon Gordon wrote “We are not positive because life is easy. We are positive because life is hard. Positivity is what we use to overcome challenges and negativity. Being positive requires hardworking. Being positive is a choice.”
It may simple for someone to tell us at a time like this that positivity is key to overcome the challenges we are all currently facing, the #NewNormal of Self-Isolation, working from home, Social-Distancing, home-schooling and keeping children of all ages entertained. The thoughts for some people are too over-whelming - fear of the unknown and fear of this immense change that none of us have ever experienced. Yet, where there is a negative, there is a positive. We have to take this time will is not a “forever” existence to reassess the way we live, the way we work and the way we are. There has been so much negativity reported by the national press, but of interest are the positives.
Electrical Testing in England and Wales
Covid-19 has impacted everything in life as we know it and the PRS is no exception. The Electrical safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 were passed by Parliament on 18 March 2020. The Regulations will apply in England to all new tenancies from 1 July 2020 and all existing tenancies from 1 April 2021.
Responsibilities of the landlord
The Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 places a continuous duty on landlords in England to maintain their property to the electrical safety standards and to have evidence of this. This means your property must meet the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations and you must have a report that shows this from a qualified person.
