For the Love of Books - Celebrate World Book Day
Every year, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) organises World Book Day on April 23. The day is intended to promote and spread awareness on reading, copyright issues and publishing.
Whether you read online, find an article in a newspaper or magazine, immerse yourself in a comic, the importance of books and reading has always been something so many people find important. When Amazon launched, it had a devastating impact on bookshops. All of a sudden those delightful little bookshops were no longer and their business had already been damaged by the larger, more corporate type stores.
And then things began to change. There was a backlash and buying books rather than using a tablet or device became a novelty once more. Being read to, reading aloud, feeling the pages, immersing oneself in the escapism created by a favourite author was exciting and our imaginations got back to work through the power of words.
In a New Era of Communication - Remember Your Landlords & Tenants
Populations across the world are adjusting to COVID-19, and with social distancing orders in place, finding new ways to communicate not only for businesses, but with family and friends, is paramount. The cultural shift has shown just how many letting agents are now using video conferencing software for the very first time.
As meetings, webinars, training take place in the new place of work, contact with the landlord and tenants remains incredibly important. The landlord needs to have an understanding of the work that is being done during this very difficult time. Whilst offices may be closed, the work still carries on. from collecting rents, liaising with tenants about “rent holidays” or discounted payments, preparing relevant paperwork to address the changes to contracts, navigating repairs and ensuring that any Statutory responsibilities are still dealt with. The workload for letting agents may have significantly increased as dealing with Covid-19 has meant a great deal of change in such a short period of time that no one has ever experienced before. What should letting agents be telling landlords and tenants?
An Evening with Landlords
Just over a week ago we were invited to attend a landlord event organised by Peter Greenwood and his team. Peter runs a lettings and sales agency, Greenwoods in Kingston-Upon-Thames and after 7 years of trading organised a “Thank the Landlords” evening which included bringing landlords present up to date on what is happening in the Private Rented Sector. As an observer, it was wonderful to see the interaction between the Greenwood team and the landlords - it is obvious that the landlords are benefitting from the personal relationship that Peter and his team offer.
