Language is what makes us human and it is how we communicate. And by learning a language, it means we have mastered a complex system of words, structure, and grammar to effectively communicate with others.

We evolve and develop throughout our formative years our skill set and ability to communicate more effectively becomes more sophisticated. Some people develop skill sets based on their surroundings and others are required to focus their energy and learn new skills. In a people focused industry, it is extremely important - from the negotiator who is required to build rapport with a prospective landlord and applicants to property managers who’s responsibility it is to manage somewhat contentious situations whilst building log term relationships with the landlord and tenant.

It this diverse and sometimes complex set of skills, that help us to become more productive, in particular, those words ending with’ION’.

Communication - fundamentally one of the most important skills in Business. From internal communication to external communication, whether it’s a verb or written or visual, communicating correctly forms an integral part of our business, especially if we want to be considered a specialist and professional in our field.

Delegation - To delegate to or not to delegate? That is the question. Being a people manager, property manager or branch manager requires the ability to delegate And allow others around us to empower themselves, and develop their own skill set. There can be a temptation to micromanage, however this does not help those who wish to progress in their chosen role to grow in confidence and ability.

Negotiation-listening to a master negotiator it’s incredibly impressive. There is an art to being a good or great Negotiator. Knowing what the final objective is, forms part of the process, as well as insuring that the outcome is a win-win for all parties involved, is extremely important. Good negotiators just talk the talk, I listen and pay attention.

Persuasion- Negotiators understand the art of persuasion; it’s subtle, requires emotional intelligence and a very good understanding of

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) - use of language, coupled with being able to read body language and behavioural traits.

Reflection - It’s not a habit that is adopted by many , but those who are very focused on their business goals will take the time to reflect not only one professional achievements, but also personal ones.
